Studying the religion of Islam as a faith-based discipline to draw one closer to God versus studying Islam as an academic discipline in a secular context are very different paradigms. Each one has its benefits and challenges. This lecture, in collaboration with the Minaretein Center, specifically targets youth, student, and alumni communities, and an opportunity to hear from Dr. Yasir Qadhi on his own experiences between a prestigious seminary as University of Madinah and a Western academic institution as Yale University, and how they shaped him as an individual. The speaker will also discuss specific constructive criticisms that can be used to better each of the two paradigms.
