The Islamic Finance and Sustainable Economy explores the interdisciplinary study of the Islamic banking and finance industry. It scrutinizes the relationship between the Islamic faith and economic phenomenon pertaining to the behavior of individuals, institutions, and markets, and its interaction with the emerging financial technology. It also examines Islamic perspectives on production, redistribution, exchange and the Islamic components of the moral economy, such as social and behavioral norms. The cluster explores the role and functioning of Islamic economic institutions such as zakat and waqf and the emerging concepts of the moral economy viz. Sustainable Economy, Sustainability, Sustainability reporting, Impact Investments, Circular Economy, Green Financing, Fintech and ESG Investments. The cluster has four priority areas of research: Empirical Digital Banking and Fintech, Islamic Social Finance, Empirical Islamic Banking, and Sustainable Islamic Finance.

The cluster also houses a dedicated Center for Islamic Economics and Finance and plans to publish dedicated International Journal of Islamic Finance & Sustainability. A specialized dedicated bibliographic database on Islamic Economics and Finance is housed at CIS’s I-BIR (ISLAMIC BIBLIOGRAPHY INFO REPOSITORY). I-BIR is a platform created by the CIS as repository of college research and publication output. The IEF Database contains both Arabic and English articles, books, and other material with full bibliographic information along with abstracts and links to full-text items.
