Abstract

This thesis introduces the usage of Waqf revenues for human development objectives with specific focus on Qatar General Directorate of Endowments as the case study. The central questions addressed in this thesis revolve around how Wag revenues can be used as an instrument for human development? What are the areas that should be targeted for realization of these objectives? How can Maqasid Theory and conventional approaches to human development guide the spending of waqf revenues for human development? Guided by Maqasid approach to human development, the thesis concludes that any social arrangement about intervention and social changes undertaken by Awqaf institutions should bend on building human capabilities by enriching and preserving the following Maqasid: Islamic religion, oneself, mind wealth, human race/family. The realization of human development is predicated upon ensuring the enrichment of the above-mentioned components.
