Submitted by Umar Farooq Patel on Wed, 01/12/2022 - 20:37

The history of Islam and the Muslim community in Srilanka dates back to the first century of Islam. Ever since its establishment as a religion along with Buddhism and Hinduism, Islam remained vibrant in Srilanka. But the invasion by the Portuguese and subsequently Dutch changed the scenario. Muslims were either converted or persecuted. Things began to change for good under British rule. Islam and the Muslim community in Srilanka began reviving but the scholarly work didn't receive due attention. Through this study, the researcher aims to study the renewal, reconstruction and renaissance efforts in Srilanka and their standing amidst the global efforts of Muslim reforms.
