The work explores the rationale and underlying principles of the Islamic concept of profit-sharing. Using concepts originating both in and out of Islam, it discusses the Islamic teachings that present profit-sharing as a fundamental part of the Islamic economic system. The study is organized into seven chapters, the first of which introduces the topic and addresses the purpose and organization of the study itself. Chapters two and three discuss the theoretical basis of and Islamic opposition to interest and riba . The following chapter focuses on the concepts of the Islamic sharing system including a contemporary non-Islamic approach to the ideas of fairness and profit. Chapter five delves into mudaraba and shirka , the main forms of Islamic profit-sharing. Chapter six once again presents the Islamic views in light of modern non-Islamic theoretical and practical models. The study concludes with a summary of its findings in the final chapter.
