Abstract

This dissertation presents the theoretical and practical benefits of Islamic management and development as compared to the present Western system. In management, the Islamic alternative applies Western thoughts to the aims of an organization in an Islamic society and demonstrates the feasibility of Shura and Nassiha. In development, Western concepts incompatible with Islam are replaced with acceptable alternatives in the Islamic system. The Islamic Comprehensive Theory of Management and Development is shown to be more effective than Western and Communist systems because it treats the economic problem as a vital part of the general needs of society. A model for Islamic management, organization, and development theory is presented, and the ideas developed are applied to the Gezira Scheme, an illustration of developmental project management in Sudan.
