Abstract

While theological, juridical, and philosophical interpretations have been clear in their prohibition of riba, there has been no conclusive consensus on the issue, in part because Riba is expressly prohibited in the Qur'an. Avoidance of riba is among the highest objectives of Islamic finance. Riba encompasses various types of illicit gain, of which banking interest is one example. " riba is not explicitly defined.
