Provides a twenty-five year history of interest-free banking in Pakistan to contextualize predictions for a perpetually Shari’a compliant finance industry there. Also explains the logic behind Shar’ia economic prescriptions, specifically its commitments to free market mechanism, efficiency, ethical investment and social justice. Concludes with case-by-case performance evaluations of private and state Islamic banks in Pakistan.
