Abstract

Part one discusses riba in terms of its definition, how it is applied and the scope it reaches. Further sections outline how the Islamic banking system functions, the instruments used for financing, and how the Islamic system differs from conventional banks. The last two sections are dedicated to providing answers to frequently asked questions about Islamic banking. Some of the topics covered include: the viability of an interest-free system, profit and loss sharing techniques, statistical comparisons between Islamic and conventional banks, practical applications, and implementing Islamic banking on greater economic scale beyond private institutions.
