Abstract

This working paper examines the impact of Islamic doctrine on the enactment of fiscal policy. The paper discusses the lack of a rigid public finance system in Islam, and the emphasis on the state's responsibility to provide a basic standard of living for its citizens. The paper then examines how states attempt to develop fiscal policies to achieve Islamic objectives, and the impact of these policies on income distribution, resource allocation, and stability and growth.
