          Abstract
Within Islam, the practice of Salat (prayers) and Zakat (Islamic progressive tax rates) are inextricably linked. There are five distinct progressive tax rates according to the Hadith and the Holy Qur'an. One important aspect of the Zakat system is Tawheed (Islamic law of unity). The concept of Taswia (equality) also motivates the progressive tax rate. To fully appreciate Tawheed, Taswia, and other facets of the Islamic system of social justice, it is important to look to Islamic history. The concepts of Salat and Zakat constantly inform each other, and they must be persued with equal vigor.
