At the core of Islamic economics is the idea that the material values of the world are to be treated as secondary to the moral values of human beings. By making the laws of economics less important than spiritual and moral laws, the life of this world and the life of the hereafter are jointly dealt with. Wealth, as seen in al-Qur'an, is a means of survival. People, according to Islam, should make effort to procure a living, but simply garnering wealth so that one can be a monopolist is rebuked. After over-consumption became a cultural norm, businesses turned to fraudulent and unfair practices to sell. Business' spiritual element disappeared. Materialism became acceptable and human values were lost. Unnecessary processing used today raises prices. The media is an instrument for increasing sales. Environmentalists from the developed world utilize their research to forward ideas about the ozone layer that keep less developed countries from optimally using their resources. The
