Abstract
Perhaps the most effective tool to fight corruption is the availability of financial information to the public. There is a direct link between corruption and the amount of transparency and quality of governance. Women leaders appear to be less susceptible to corruption, though with the exception of Malaysia, are largely restricted from leadership positions in Muslim countries. Corruption, or the perception of it, decreases capital flows, foreign investment, and productivity, which can be destructive to a country's economy. The article heavily cites and provides a chart based on data compiled in the Global Corruption Report 2004 released by Transparency International.
