(Partner, Latham & Watkins LLP, London, United Kingdom) Craig Nethercott is a partner at the international law firm Latham & Watkins LLP. Craig is the co-chair of the Firm’s Global Islamic Finance Group. He specializes in project finance and Islamic finance with a primary focus on the Middle East, and in particular Saudi Arabia. Craig has been intimately involved in many of the ground-breaking Islamic finance transactions in Qatar, Oman, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, such as his work as lead counsel to Saudi Aramco on the development of Ijara/Istisn’a structure for the Rabigh Refinery project in 2006, as counsel to the lenders (Credit Suisse/AlJezzera Bank and the Islamic Development Bank) with respect to the Istisn’a/Ijara (intangible asset) financing of the Hajj terminal expansion in Jeddah Saudi Arabia, and as lead counsel to Mobily (the mobile telecommunications operator in Saudi Arabia) with respect to its $5 billion innovative Airtime Sales Facility. Craig is currently advising the Saudi Binladen led consortium with respect to its bid for the Madinah Airport BOT project in Saudi Arabia. Craig is the co-editor of the practitioners publication Islamic Finance, Law and Practice, to be published by Oxford University Press in December 2011. Craig contributed the chapter on murabaha and tawarruq to this publication.
