(Deputy Director, Islamic Banking, State Bank of Pakistan, Islamabad, Pakistan) An economist by training Bushra Shafiq holds a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. Presently, she works in the Islamic Banking Department-Central Bank of Pakistan. Her areas of research include Islamic finance, Socio-Economic policy with particular focus on Poverty and development finance. In her current role, she is involved in market analysis, developing regulatory framework, undertaking empirical and theoretical research with particular focus on developing Islamic macroeconomic models. An avid writer, she regularly contributes to international Islamic finance publications along with periodicals of the central bank. Her recent work includes Models of Islamic Microfinance, Ijara Sukuk to Help Sovereign to Generate Funds, Human Resource Development in Islamic finance.
