Shariq Nisar holds PhD in economics specializing in Islamic banking and finance from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. He is among the senior most professionals of Islamic finance in India and is closely associated with both academia as well as the industry. He has pioneered shari‘a screening of stocks in India and has been associated with most of the shari‘a-compliant deals structured in the country. In his academic activities, Nisar focuses on Islamic finance education, research, and training. He has structured Islamic finance courses for various universities and colleges and has participated in over a dozen international seminars and conferences on Islamic finance in America, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. Nisar is visiting faculty at many Indian universities and has published over 50 research papers and articles. He is also director of research and operations at India’s premier shari‘a advisory firm, Taqwaa Advisory and Shari’a Investment Solutions Pvt Ltd. (TASIS) in Mumbai.
