Doctoral Candidate, European Business School, Oestrich-Winkel, Germany Philipp Wackerbeck is an Associated Fellow of the Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance in London. He has graduated from Passau University in Germany with a master’s degree in business and economics and is now a doctoral researcher at the Department of Real Estate at the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel, Germany. Mr. Wackerbeck has gained some work experience with leading financial institutions such as AIG, Deutsche Bank, Credit Lyonnais and Hanover Re in Germany, China, Luxemburg and in the U.K. Additionally, he has published several books, articles and working papers on banking and insurance topics. Among his areas of research are the economics of Islamic insurance (Takaful), the demutualization of mutual insurance companies and the integration of financial services/bancassurance.
