Consultant, United Bank of Kuwait; London, United Kingdom Gohar Bilal is currently a consultant with the United Bank of Kuwait, focusing on neutral transactions that can be offered to both Islamic and conventional investors. An investment banker by profession, she was previously a Visiting Scholar at the Islamic Legal Studies Program, where she did research on Islamic asset-backed securities. Before coming to Harvard, Bilal headed the Corporate Finance and Investment Banking Division at Faysal Bank Limited in Karachi, Pakistan. She has also worked at Citibank N.A., Karachi (investment banking division) and Imperial Bank, Los Angeles (real estate finance). Bilal holds an M.S. in Construction Engineering and Management from Stanford University. In April 1997, Euromoney magazine named Bilal among the “Top 50 Women in the Finance World.†Bilal is presently writing a book on Islamic asset-backed securities and works closely with the Harvard Islamic Finance Information Program.
