Alam, Mohammed Nurul

Dr. Mohammed Nurul Alam, Associate Professor of Accounting and Islamic Banking (MBA) in the School of Graduate Studies, hold a Ph.D. (in Islamic Finance from Lund University, Sweden and Masters in Accounting from University of Chittagong, Bangladesh.). His research dissertation was on “Small Business Finance by Islamic Banks,” which was carried out through the framework of Lund Institute of Economic Research, a division of the School of Economics and Management. He is the author of two books, Empowering Small Entrepreneurs by Islamic Banks; A study of lender-borrower network relationships between small entrepreneurs and different financing institutions and Financing Small and Cottage Industries by Islamic Bank His interests are mainly concerned with the study of the activities of the Islamic Banking finance towards micro entrepreneurs and SMEs, by the newly developed financial institution that gives credit without interest to its customers Dr. Alam has done extensive research on micro entrepreneurs and SMEs finance by Islamic Banks in Indonesia, UK, USA, Sudan, Turkey, Cyprus, Kenya, Pakistan and Bangladesh. He has been working as a visiting professor in the department of Islamic Economics and Finance (IEF) at Trisakti University, Jakarta, Indonesia, since 2005 and give a course to PhD students on ‘Islamic banks, Network and Micro entrepreneurs’. He has more than 35 years of teaching experience in the field of Accounting and other commerce related subjects and taught graduate and postgraduate students in many countries in Africa, Europe, Asia and North America and Middle East.
